Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, dedicated to the Hindu God, Ranganathan is the largest temple in India and one of the largest temples in the world, located in Tamil Nadu. The temple, covering an area of 155 acres has 50 shrines, 39 pavilions, nine sacred water pools, and 21 towers, and is carved with beautiful sculptures and shrines.

Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple

The Akshardham Temple is constructed on 100 acres of land near the Commonwealth Khelgaon in Delhi. The temple has earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the ‘World’s Largest Comprehensive Hindu Temple’.

Virupaksha Temple

The Virupaksha Temple in the city of Hampi started out as a small shrine and grew into a large complex under the Vijayanagara rulers. It is believed that this temple has been functioning uninterruptedly ever since the small shrine was built in the 7th century AD which makes it one of the oldest functioning Hindu temples in India.

Annamalaiyar Temple

Annamalaiyar Temple at the base of Annamalai hills in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvannamalai is spread over 1,01,171 square meters. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is the fire of the five elements. The temple is believed to be the largest temple in the world dedicated to Shiva.

Brihadeeswarar Temple

Brihadeeswarar Temple in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur is known to be one of the largest South Indian temples. Built in the early 11th century, It is the first and one of its kind in the world, made in granite and has been declared a World Heritage by UNESCO. One of the largest Shiva lingas in India is present here.

Belur Math

The Belur math temple in West Bengal’s Kolkata reflects a fusion of Hindu, Islamic, Buddhist, Rajput and Christian architectural styles. Covering a vast area of 40 acres, it is considered as a symbol of unity of all religions in the world. It is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda.

Thillai Nataraja Temple

Thillai Nataraja Temple in Tamil Nadu’s Chidambaram is dedicated to Nataraja — Shiva, the lord of dance. This historic Hindu temple is spread across an area of 50 acres. It is learnt that Lord Nataraja’s big toe is the Centre Point of World ‘s Magnetic Equator.
